In my experience it pays to be super polite to the people handling email, phones, and at the consulate, no matter what.
Stationed in Italy and trying to track down my wife's visa. every single one of the numbers they have listed is answered by a pre recorded message I've left messages and used the email option. No one responds. !! Any helpful advice ? Thank you
In my experience the people at the consulate were quite polite and helpful. I made an extra effort to be super polite and patient when I was there. I was able to get the 6 month visa that I wanted and in time to travel. So I give that part 5 stars. I would give one star for the experience preparing for the appointment. The website is confusing. Getting questions answered can be quite hard. The standard and frustrating response to a call (if you get through) or an email is that the information is on the website. I found the level of uncertainty to be quite stressful. It took me some time to realize that for my visa I would apply by bringing the application and all paperwork to the consulate appointment. Beware that the lead time to get an appointment can be 2 months although you may be able to snag an earlier date on line if you spot an opening if someone cancels. Schedule your appointment at 9:30 am if possible. My suggestion is to start the process of gathering all the paperwork at least 6 months in advance. Accept that you may never be able to figure out with absolute certainty the exact list of required paperwork. Bring much more documentation than you think you will need, separated into two stacks - what you know you need and what you might need.
My experiences with the Consulate staff have been great! They mean business so DO NOT show up unprepared. Accept the fact that you are on foreign soil when you cross that threshold, so be respectful and they will respect you. People waste a lot of time looking for answers they can find somewhere else. If you state your business clearly, you'll get the results you're seeking.
I recently visited the consulate to request a VISA for my girlfriend, and the experience couldn't have been more positive. the staff was courteous and professionals. Also when I had to call them back a couple of days later, they provide the requested details in a nice manner.
Applying for one of these visa may cost upwards of $1000, between the cost of traveling to Chicago, the visa fee, cost for translations and certification of documents, and postage, photos and incidentals. Also be prepared to invest a lot of your time in the process.
I am wondering if the negative comments are the result of people visiting the consulate not prepared or without any preliminary check of the required information.
Very bad service . They never reply emails and have no clue of what they are doing
