The Consulate does not provide shipping services but at the same floor, there is a travel agent company that picks up and ships for clients with a reasonable charge.
Quick and efficient experience. I waited 5-7 minutes max. Has a passport photo booth, photo copier, and a pick up line for quick return visits. Keep track of your pink receipt!
I had a really painless experience here while applying for a visa. I arrived right at 9:00 am and was in and out in less than 30 mins. Here's what I brought:
I am pretty impressed by the efficiency and user experience at this location. I've been other Chinese Consulates/Embassies at other locations years before and I have to say they have changed a lot over these years. They used to be uncomfortable places, but now they are much better. The only suggestion I got for this location is the lines can be confusing somehow. If they can use a better number-calling system that will be better.
I was a bit confused about all of what I needed to do or say once at the counter, the desk clerk didn't say much, but I had no problems.
Went to pick up work visa. Was asked for a receipt. Was demanded a reason I didn't have it. Wasn't given a receipt. I was told to stand to the side of the window, not given any explanation. Everyone going up to the window was asking me if I was in line. When I was allowed to the window she asked me how she was supposed to find my passport without a receipt. She was asking me how I was supposed to do HER job. On top of all that everyone was forced to go to the 7-eleven to get money from the vending machine and a money order (an extra $5) because they couldn't take cards.
My experience with this Consulate is much better than I originally expected. We went here for our son's travel document in August 2017. The Consulate opened on time at 8:30 and the staffs are polite and helpful. We pretty much got everything done before 10am. The facility is sufficient. They got a photo booth and a photo copier in the Hall.
6. Visa photo (I took this in the photo booth right in the waiting room. It cost $10)
4. Letters of invitation from the business clients I will be visiting
1. The completed application, typed, in all caps
I also brought my hotel confirmation emails, but the woman behind the counter didn't ask for those. Hope this helps!
2. A copy of my passport, open to the photo page
I flew all the way from Minneapolis to Chicago to go apply for a same day visa hence it was stated on the website they offer it. Got to the office and they don’t offer it no more. Since is veteran day weekend they will be close. So I wasted time taken off work, paying for a flight and hotel . Save yourself the headache and hassle and deal with a travel agency. Unbelievable. If they could update the information on their website it would be greatly appreciated
3. My actual passport
5. Flight confirmation emails
