Excellent experience. In and out in less than 30. Yes, it's a little confusing at first to understand what you need to bring, but if you follow directions on the website perfectly, bring your hard copies, you'll be just fine! They were not rude at all, just be prepared people!

Applied for a visa. It's been almost a month and they are still holding my passport and my case is pending. What level of incompetence is this? Reflects very poorly on Brazil. If it is this bad at an institution that supposed to represent a country abroad, how bad is the bureaucracy in Brazil? Unbelievable. Don't make travel arrangement months in advance if you're applying for a visa at this consulate.

I wish I could give them 0 stars. My experience applying for a tourist visa was an absolute nightmare of incompetence and lack of customer service entirely. My first attempt at applying I drove 5 hours (each way) to deliver all my required documents in person. The woman I spoke to in the visa office was friendly, looked over my paperwork, and told me everything looked good and I would hear back in 3 weeks. 3 weeks later I received everything back in the mail as DENIED for a trivial reason I could have easily fixed the moment I dropped off my paperwork. Let alone a simple phonecall or email to remedy the small mistake. So now 3 weeks are gone and my application fee non-refundable. After waiting for an email response (the only way you can reach ANYONE) I'm told to reapply from scratch. Ok. I mail all my paperwork back, triple checked. 3 FULL weeks later I receive an envelope with merely my passport and no visa to be found. Nothing explaining if I was approved or denied. I contact them via email again and wait 24 hours between each half-***ed reply. They are telling me I was approved and the visa must be inside. Its not.... My passport is completely blank. How can they FORGET to put the visa inside? The ONE THING they are there to do in the visa office... I'm told to come back to Chicago or mail my passport back to them (at my expense of course) so they can check for themselves. At this point my flight leaves in a week. I work during week days so I cannot possibly spend 10 hours driving to meet their (RIDICULOUS) office hours of 9-11am (???). I do not have enough time left to wait for it to be mailed, them probably taking weeks to even look at it, and likely failing to remedy the situation for the 3rd time. They took zero responsibility for any of this over the course of our emails. This place reflects incredibly poorly on the country of Brazil in my eyes and I can't see myself ever applying again for a tourist visa after this experience. I'm now out well over $250 in application fees and prepaid envelopes and not to mention my very expensive plane ticket to Brazil which is now useless and non-refundable. If by some reason you are forced to do business with this location start a YEAR in advance, trust me!

Yes, the hours here are pretty restrictive and also yes, the website isn't as abundantly clear as it could be . However, all the instructions you need to apply for a visa are available on the site. Fill out the paperwork to the T and be able to walk into the office and leave successfully 10 minutes later . Picking up the visa took all of 1 minute. Would rate 5 if hours were more extensive.

Finally made it home after a long drive to and from Chicago to the Brazil consulate/embassy. Went down on Sunday to pick up Visas on Monday, was denied drove all the way back home to Saginaw Michigan and now I must get in the car in about three hours and drive back to Chicago with more information for myself and the band. I have never in all my Life been so humiliated and treated so rudely and by anyone, and I have been treated bad but this was the top-of-the-line. The Brazilian Consulate has horrible hospitality. They are rude obnoxious and ought to be ashamed of themselves the way they treat people, I did not deserve the treatment I got on Monday morning. So pray for me this morning and will see what happens today! Thank you to my brother Herbert Williams for riding with me on Sunday. #EnduringToTheEnd
