Beautiful old classic theatre with organ and great acoustics. Comfortable seats too. Nothing like a great sing along
A gorgeous old fashioned theater that shows lots of independent, foreign, and classic films. If you still want to go to the movies for the cinematic experience as opposed to the reclining chairs and dine in service this is one of the last genuine theaters in the city.
Went for an NPR segment recording of Sex/drugs/money. It was fun. Abiance/aesthetic of the theatre was very appealing. Time Warp type of feeling with the wooden seats and dim lighting that hides most of the blemishes of the building It became uncomfortable sitting after a couple hours. The concessions were fairly priced. A variety of entertainment offered for all.
Consistently great screenings of new independent cinema and older classics. Great staff that puts a ton of thought into special events, from the yearly 70mm film festival to more special occasions such as 2017's David Lynch retrospective. The worst thing I can say is some of the seats are old and broken, but there are so many seats in the theatre it's easy to find an acceptable one and the programming more than makes up for it. One of my favorite theatres in Chicago and well worth becoming a member!
I love music box!! It's absolutely beautiful inside, kept up from it's original condition. I always find really amazing movies here that I wouldn't find anywhere else. I don't even care if I've heard of it before I'll just go, because I trust the theater!! Always amazing! And when the organ player is there, oh man, you're in for a treat!
