My sister has sickle cell and she has had outstanding health care from emergency, laboratory staff, nurses, administrative staff, phenomenal doctors. My sister is now 18 so she will soon have to leave her family. The love and care of the staff towards these children is amazing and consistent. They seem to remember each child almost by name and their conditions. Angel is a wonderful man that worked in the lab for years. He is the only one that could find my sisters almost invisible veins every time. By the time she was five she demanded him. Parents, it's worth the drive for the loving atmosphere. Although the hospital is not large they are part of University of Chicago.
My daughter been coming to this hospital since she was 3weeks her first shot and she also has been admitted twice here and when I say they the emergency room staff are concern about there little patients they are. My daughter was treated very fast there and when she was admitted twice they had a room for her asap! And also the staff, nurse, doctor's and etc they all was sooooo nice very polite respectful and concern as well they also treated not only my daughter like home, but me as well they feed her I also got to eat a free meal breakfast, lunch and dinner just because I didn't and don't wanted to leave my daughter side.
I'm sure the doctors and nurses have changed since I was there, but the mission has not.
My son has a tracheostomy and is ventilator dependant. He is a year old now and has never been home, though only been at LaRabida for about 2 months. From the top with the CEO, Medical Director, case management, social work, child life to the charge nurses, bedside nurses and ALL therapist, PT, OT, Infant Development and Speech, to the nicest environmental service staff, the vast majority of my encounters have been extremely pleasant. You will never like everyone or everything but this place is so special for those who have rubbed me the wrong way, get pushed aside by the dedicated team that allows me to take my son outside, gets him a custom Paw Patrol bday cake, and treats my 3yr old son like family when he visits. La Rabida is really a special place and I know my son is in good hands there.
Awesome hospital! The staff really cares
