Edit: I am reading some old reviews from people who complain about not being approached by customer service in this place. I can tell when I am in there that there are a lot of people who are only stopping by to check out the tanks. I would guess that is why they don't approach every person coming in. Just go up to the employees and start asking questions.... I've never had an issue. Even was able to get detailed answers on questions about plumbing in my sump.
There is nothing to say about Old Town Aquarium except it is the best (and perhaps only - never been to another) fish store in the city of Chicago. Top notch staff that is knowledgeable about everything and anything. Great accessories. Their live fish stock is healthy and varied. They will take care of you here. Be warned though, prices are on the high end. Then again, you get what you pay for... which is a good thing in this case.
Really the only place to get quality coral and equipment on the north side of Chicago. The prices are higher than what you would pay online or at some suburban stores, but that should be expected for the quality of the product. Employees always seem to be willing to help with questions (yes, even the stupid questions). You don't have to worry about them trying to up sell you with unnecessary products in order to make money, expect honest answers and recommendations. Huge variety of coral/fish/equipment (not quite as much variety of inverts). Overall highly recommended!
Been coming here for years - the best aquarium store in Chicago. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, healthy fish, and a great selection of freshwater, saltwater, plants, corals, and everything you need to set up your tank. Prices reflect the fact that they're the only game in town, but they're not unreasonable.
I love this shop! They have a great selection of products and fish. Most importantly, their team is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I met one of their specialists, alex at Pets Mart before he was hired here and I couldn't be more pleased with the service he provides. I highly recommend you come here for your aquarium needs.
Fishes are extremely overpriced (e.g. $99 for a clown, $1599 for an eel, $399 for a large hermit crab etc). All employees are weird/creepy, one guy has a girl voice, one guy has a big afro, owner dress like a witch. Drive 10miles going somewhere else to other stores for much much much lower prices.
